I’m a huge fan of Pinterest – I’ve found so many interesting and inspiring things on there, and I’ve actually made things inspired by some of my pins. I pinned this image months ago and have been meaning to do my own interpretation of our family dates. I finally got around to doing it for this week’s Hybrid Scrapbooking & More post on the Designer Digitals blog.

I created an 8×10 canvas in Photoshop, added our dates (birth dates and wedding day):

Full supply list can be found at Designer Digitals.

I played around with blend modes and opacity because I wanted the background to show through a little through the numbers. I just love the wooden background paper. I think this would be very cool printed on a canvas but I printed it out on photo paper and framed it.

I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. I even like that the numbers extend past the 8×10 canvas (I printed it on an 8.5×11 sheet). We’ll call that a happy accident!

Happy Monday everybody! It’s time for a new ad inspiration challenge. I loved this ad the first minute I saw it in a travel magazine– I was drawn to the colorful, details photos and I liked the unexpected curve in the center strip. I also liked the mix of text down the center, even though I didn’t go that way with my (first) take.

I went in a little different direction than I first expected. Apparently I can’t stop using certain digi supplies – it’s a good thing they don’t wear out I used Just Linens: Sorina Paper Pack and Bakers Twine Assortment No. 01 on all my recent layouts! Here’s my interpretation:

All supplies from Designer Digitals.

So, what do you think? Are you inspired by this ad? What features of it speak to you?

I’ve been seeing tons of posts all over the internet, galleries, facebook, pinterest of various people’s takes on Project Life. I almost succumbed to the peer pressure. Almost. Then I remembered that I already had a plan for my year (photo-a-day and gratitude journal) and I really didn’t need to add another project into the mix. I really want to try a week in the life type of album sometime this year but for now, project life is not for me. I’m happy with what I’ve planned and so far, at day 18 of 2012, I’ve stuck with it.

The fabulous Pattie Knox came up with a great new template for project 365, she even whipped up a portrait version of her original landscape-oriented template:

I’m using Speed Byte No. 164

Here’s week 1:

Other credits at Designer Digitals.

And week 2 (very similar):

I’m finding that sticking with iPhone photos is actually taking the pressure off. I don’t expect or try to take the perfect photo. I just take any photo. When I did this project before (in 2008 and 2010), I started off trying to learn how to use my camera better but then scrambled to get a decent picture. No such illusions using my cell phone camera!

I’m going to keep the white mat consistent throughout the year but switch out the patterned paper background. It’s photo-focused and simple but it works for what I’m trying to accomplish. Plus, I did these two pages in about a half an hour – most of that was spent picking the background paper, oh and moving the date tags around!

So, how about you? Are you attempting project 366 this year? Or Project Life? How is it going?

Happy Monday everybody! It’s Monday and even though I am far from home right now, here’s something I prepared earlier I have a collection of ads in a folder and pulled this one out – it’s from Real Simple, July 2005. I knew hanging on to some stuff was a good idea! I’ve always been drawn to the clean and simple ads, I love the sharpness, but as you can see from my interpretation I added my own little touches.

Here’s my interpretation:

All supplies are from Designer Digitals.

So, what do you think? If you use ads for inspiration, do you stay close to the original? I’d love to hear from you! Thanks so much to everyone who has left comments – it’s so nice to know someone is reading

Happy Monday everybody! I’m back with a new ad inspiration challenge – ripped from one of my favorite magazines, Real Simple. I’ve seen this one in a few other mags too though.

I realized as I was about to start a layout, that this ad reminded me of printer trays and used a digital one as the basis of my layout. I can’t believe I have most of Christmas scrapped already!

So, what do you think? I think I’d like to try a paper version of this. Got to do some thinking first as to how I’d implement the grid/shelves. Don’t forget to link me up if you are inspired to create!

I know, it’s already January 3rd but I don’t know about you, I find it hard to make that fresh start on January 1st. There’s still parties and open houses and decorations to deal with. I need a few days to get sorted. So I’ve moved my fresh start to January 3rd and here we are.

Looking back, 2011 was a pretty good year. There weren’t any huge life-changing events but we did some fun things – I went to Vegas and Chicago. The whole family went to Ireland. We had a few family fun days and went to our first Red Sox game as a family. All things I’d like to do again. Here’s our year in review that I did for the template challenge at Designer Digitals:

Supplies can be found at Designer Digitals.

Looking forward, I have lots of plans for 2012. I took last year off from any 365/photo projects and this year I’m going to try taking a photo every day. My plan right now is to take an iPhone photo every day if possible. Not sure how that is going to work outside of the country but we’ll see when/if that happens. I’m also hoping to keep up a project that I started with the whole family last November – a gratitude journal of sorts. In November I asked everybody in the family to write down one thing they were thankful for that day. We didn’t make it through the entire month but it was definitely a worthwhile project. I pulled our list into layout for the January Write.Click.Scrapbook gallery:

I got a cheapy planner from the Target dollar spot and am filling in my daily gratitude each day. I’ll try to get the whole family on board again in November.

These are two low-stress projects that I’m undertaking – I’ve deliberately made it easy on myself. I’ve done project 365 twice before and I know in order to keep up, I have to make things easy.

And finally, I’ve picked a word for the year: Attitude. Although I can’t always control what happens to me, I can control is my attitude to it. I’ve set up a Pinterest board to collect quotes about my one little word. I think my next project will have to create some art with my word to remind myself.

How about you? What are your plans for 2012?

I pulled out an ad that I’ve had for a number of years – I keep a stash for quite some time! Please excuse the wonky scan. I liked the long photo with the cluster of small over-lapping photos.

I used it to scrap our Christmas morning. I added some depth with the frame cluster and some texture with the ribbons and floss. I think maybe I should add a little more color – maybe later.

Following the tradition that my friend Vivian started a number of years ago, here’s my favorite layouts from 2011, in no particular order (including paper and digital). I definitely didn’t scrap as much this year as I’ve done other years. And I certainly didn’t take as many photos (didn’t do project 365 this year).

I really got into paint splatters this year. I think this was the start of it:

From our annual trip Ireland, which was rainier than other years.

This was done for a review of Fancy Pants Back to School line. I found it hysterical that Tommy is wearing the same shorts on both the first and last days of school.

Happy memories of a date with hubby. Chocolate and m favorite guy – can’t go wrong! Oh and those Jillibean goodies – yum!

M’s 8th birthday party – I love how many photos I got on here.

More of Molly missing those front teeth. So cute! Makes up for the snow. Almost.

The first of a number of photo-less layouts I did this year — I used a stock photo in this particular one. I’ve been telling people this story for years, it’s nice to get it down on paper.

More snow. And check it out – misting!

Pretty simple but with clever (I think) details. The minuteman walking across the baseball field cracked me up Oh and more paint splatters.

Clean and crisp. Happy. It was a happy day

Multi-photo (or no photo) layouts seems to be my theme for 2011. Paint splatters, a little blending and photo clusters are my go-to techniques or products. Have you found a theme in your favorite layouts from this past year? Link me up if you do your own top 10 post – I’d love to see them!

It’s a holiday week so I don’t have a new ad today but I thought I’d revisit one of my previous ad challenges – #29. My first interpretation was an all-digi layout with lots of photos. I thought it would be fun to use the same ad as a base with patterned papers in the squares. I used Jenni Bowlin’s Christmas 2011 line mixed with some older Jenni papers.

I’ll be back next week with a new ad challenge! In the mean time don’t forget to check out the older ads – you can find them all under Inspiration! Don’t forget to link me up if you do get inspired
